CUSTOMER REVIEW
I looked all over the internet, went to the geeks at Best Buy an Radio Shack, and got a lot of misinformation. Finally, I found out from Apple that this is what they recommend. It is the exact one the Apple Store sells. They just couldn't get it to me overnight. It is just what you need to transfer video from Mini DV Camcorders to iMovie!
I've used it a number of times on different occasions and it works perfectly! Nothing else did. I have a SONY Mini DV Camcorder TRV-33 that is about seven years old and a new MacBookPro late 2010.
By the way, the input on the MacBookPro looks like it's nine pin, which threw off the "geeks." It actually does if you count them, but the cable is called 800/400. The input has a Y shaped icon that looks a bit like a zipper to the left of it, that means "firewire."
If you use a tripod when shooting, you do not need to stabilize the image when using the firewire to download. It will transfer much faster without image stabilization. If you shot it hand held, you might want to.
I hope this helps others spend less time searching for answers.
