Dr. Greg Forbes, the Weather Channel's severe weather expert, will be off our air for a few weeks as he undergoes colon cancer surgery. The cancer was detected during a routine exam and, because it was spotted early, his prognosis for a full recovery is good.

"Dr. Forbes' commitment to our audience in times of severe weather has always been remarkable," writes Weather Channel president David Clark in a note to the staff. "Witnessing him go full bore during the storms these past few days, knowing what he has been dealing with, is something I, for one, will tell my grandkids about. We are grateful for him and look forward to his full recovery and welcoming him back very soon."

Courtney Friel, the former Fox News reporter, now reporting for KTLA in Los Angeles, was covering a wildfire Thursday when a shirtless man asked her out: "Wow, you're super pretty. Do you want to go on a date sometime?" he asked. Friel, who is married to CBS News correspondent Carter Evans, didn't answer.

Evans made a name for himself on a breaking news story. He was the only reporter on the scene during a shootout in February 2012 that ended the manhunt for the fugitive Christopher Dorner. Working freelance at the time for CBS News, Evans was quickly hired by the network.

Breaking news seems to be a specialty for the reporting couple. Evans and Friel were visiting family in Hawaii in March, 2011 when an earthquake triggered a tsunami warning. At the time Friel, who was working for Fox News Channel, phoned in a report for FNC, while Evans, working for CNN at the time, did the same for that network.
